Android has captured the market of smartphones - Pskov News Release

In the second quarter of 2013 the share of the Android operating system for smart phones reached 79.3 percent, while the share of iOS – fell to 13.2 percent. This is stated in the traditional quarterly review of research IDC. For comparison, a year earlier Android held 69.1 percent of the market, and iOS – 16,6 percent.

in third place among the most popular smartphone operating system Windows Phone, which has managed to take 3.7 percent of the market. The share of BlackBerry OS fell by two percentage points to 2.9 percent, and Symbian – four percentage points to 0.2 percent.

Earlier the same IDC reported that smartphone manufacturers shipped nearly 238 million sellers devices during the quarter, a 52.3 percent increase over the same period a year earlier, which is the highest in five quarters. In comparison with the first three months of the year shipments were up 10 percent. The leaders of the market – Samsung and Apple – have started to lose market share. So, the South Korean company for the year has decreased from 32.2 to 30.4 percent, while the U.S. – from 16.6 to 13.1 percent. At the same time the share of LG, Lenovo and other manufacturers has increased significantly, although they are still two to three times lag behind Apple’s by number of units sold.

Total sales of mobile phones including smartphones totaled 432.1 million units. The pace of growth in this market is much smaller than in the smartphone market – only about six percent from the second quarter of 2012 to the second quarter of 2013th.
