Intel chips will provide cheap Android-Tablets – BBC News

Intel announced a strategic partnership with a Chinese company for the production of quad Rockchip Atom-chip, designed for low-cost Android-tablets. Under the agreement, Rockchip processor family will establish SoFIA issue for the Asian market in the next year.

“systems on a chip” SoFIA refer to the initial level. They will include 4 core x86-compatible architecture Silvermont (the same chips used in Bay Trail, which are equipped with some Windows-and Android-plates) and 3G-modem, also designed by Intel. Other components, including graphics chip and communication modules provide Rockchip.

Announcing the agreement, Intel CEO Brian Krzhanich highlighted the strength of relations with the Chinese manufacturers Rockchip Android-tablet. Thus, it is the easiest option to exit the chip maker to the Chinese market. Joining forces with a partner, Intel will be able to draw attention to their x86 architecture and develop relationships with local companies, not creating them from scratch.

According Krzhanicha, the first device will SoFIA “until mid-2015.” Own products based on the new Intel Atom-chip must leave by the end of this year.
